What is TAVI?
Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI) is a minimally invasive procedure to replace a narrowed or diseased aortic valve without open-heart surgery. It is performed via a catheter, typically through the femoral artery in the groin. Dr Edgar Tay performs TAVI at AHVC.
What is pulmonary hypertension?
Pulmonary hypertension is elevated blood pressure in the arteries supplying the lungs. One form — chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH) — can be treated with Balloon Pulmonary Angioplasty, a catheter-based procedure that Dr Edgar Tay performs at AHVC.
What is a MitraClip procedure?
MitraClip is a minimally invasive catheter-based procedure to treat mitral regurgitation, a condition where the mitral valve does not close properly. A small clip is placed on the valve leaflets to reduce leakage, avoiding open-heart surgery. It is suitable for patients at high surgical risk.
