Making sense of the different type of clips available to treat patient with mitral valve regurgitation

Mitral valve regurgitation is a serious heart condition where the mitral valve fails to close properly. This causes blood to flow backward from the left ventricle (lower chamber) into the left atrium (upper chamber) when the heart contracts, disrupting normal circulation. If this “back leak” is severe and not treated, it can lead to heart failure.

TEER: A Less Invasive Breakthrough

For decades, open-heart surgery was the mainstay of treatment. Today, patients have a safer and less invasive alternative: Transcatheter Edge-to-Edge Repair (TEER).

MitraClip vs. PASCAL Clip: What’s the Difference?

The MitraClip was the first device approved by the FDA and has helped thousands of patients worldwide. More recently, the PASCAL clip was introduced, offering doctors another effective option with some unique design features.

While both devices are proven and safe, the choice of which clip to use depends on each patient’s valve anatomy and overall health.
